Silvia Castro Escobar Carro

December 7, 1926 — August 9, 2025

Silvia Castro Escobar Carro, age 98, passed away peacefully at our home on August 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Silvia was born on December 7, 1926, in Mosquera, Colombia, South America, to parents Emilio Escobar and Maria de Carmen Castro Escobar. She spent her life nurturing those around her, first as a devoted stay-at-home mother, wife and later as a respected member of the Appleton community.

Silvia was married to Alcides Carro of Buenos Aires, Argentina, who passed on June 30, 2017 and together they raised their beloved daughter, Estella Maris Carro-Barker (husband Paul Barker). She was a proud grandmother to Adelia Estrada (husband Matt Estrada) Jose Gomez III (wife Joanna Gomez) Anthony Barker (wife Salvi) Katie Strain (husband Casey), and a delighted great-grandmother to Adelaido Angel Gomez, Philip Fredrick Hampton Barker and Sloane Harrison Strain. We can’t forget our loving fur babies Violet (Silvia’s Persian cat AKA Diva), Jazmine Rose (Feisty and Fun Miniature Pinscher) and Magnolia Grace (Sweet, loving, and class clown Miniature Long Hair Dachshund). All three were next to Silvia when she passed.

Later in life, Silvia worked for the City of Appleton with Valley Transit, where she played a vital role in assisting the Hispanic community navigate public transportation. She was proud of becoming a citizen of the United States and took great pride in helping others adapt and thrive in their new country.

Silvia will be remembered for her green thumb and love of gardening (that’s where her daughter gets it from,) impeccable sense of fashion (that’s were all of her daughter’s purse and shoe obsessions come from), her desire for a shot of tequila (no shabby tequila for her only upscale) with her family and—above all—her deep love for her extended family and friends. She also loved working out at the YMCA. A month prior to her passing, she pushed herself to lift her little pink weights. She experienced many adventures, such as camping, hiking and traveling. She also loved to sew (she made all her daughters dresses as a little girl). Her passion for music and dancing will be remembered by so many, wearing high- heels just 10 years ago at our backyard parties. Her warmth, strength, elegance and Colombian spiciness (If she liked you or didn’t you would know) touched everyone who knew her.

Her family will be forever grateful for the loving care shown by Thedacare Hospice and the Grand Chute Lions Club. She is her daughter’s hero forever and always. Ti quero mucho Mamasita y te extranare hasta que te vuelva a vir.

A private celebration of life will be held to honor Silvia’s life on September 7th, 2025 at her daughter’s home.
