Richard Winnes

Richard R. Winnes, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 26. He was born on September 6, 1943, in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, to George and Grace Winnes. He graduated from Reedsburg High School and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1967. He worked for the State of Wisconsin as the chief field auditor for the Bureau of Strategic Finance for northern Wisconsin, retiring in 1999.

Richard and his wife, Shirley (Oehmichen), having met while students at Whitewater, were married in 1967. Over the years, they were pet parents lovingly caring for canine companions, Champagne, Missy, Libby Hope, Sadie, and Rosie. Their love for animals led to the creation of a trust to donate to the Wisconsin Humane Society-Green Bay Campus.

Richard enjoyed hunting, skeet shooting, and sporting clays while “shooting the breeze” with many friends. Other interests included reading about World War II history, watching tv cooking programs and cooking at home, and watching the stock market for financial investments. He was known for his positive outlook on life and a quick wit which always lightened conversations.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother George. In accordance with Richard’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
