Green Bay, WI

Richard “Jerry” Liimatainen of Green Bay, born on 06/18/1949 passed away peacefully on 03/16/2026 surrounded by family.

Jerry was born in Aura MI to proud first-generation Finnish immigrant parents Carl and Kathryn Waisanen Liimatainen. Jerry was the youngest of five and grew up along Lake Superior in a home built by his father. Jerry spent his working years doing a variety of construction and maintenance work. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, community, and the simple pleasures that stayed with him throughout his life.

A devoted and lifelong Detroit Lions fan, he faithfully followed his team through every season, celebrating victories and enduring losses with unwavering loyalty. Football Sundays were a cherished tradition for him and often sparked spirited conversations with friends and family.

Jerry found great joy in the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes. He could often be found riding his bike around town, enjoying the fresh air and familiar surroundings. He also had a sweet tooth and often loved a good treat.

He had a curious mind and loved staying connected to the world. Listening to talk radio, catching the local sports games, listening to country music, watching the news, and reading the daily newspaper with a cup of coffee were part of his everyday routine.

He loved meeting new people and had a natural way of striking up conversations wherever he went. A friend to many, he maintained special lifelong friendships that meant the world to him. He was a dreamer, had strong opinions, a good sense of humor, and a bit of stubbornness that was simply part of who he was. Many will also remember the countless conversations shared with him over the years.

He carried love for his children with him every day and loved hearing about his grandkids. He lived and enjoyed the simple life.

Jerry is survived by his children; Shelly (Harry) Orr, Georgette (Shawn) Gariepy, Shawn Liimatainen, Kristi (Adam) Murphy, Tina (Adam) Paral, Kyle (Teresa) Liimatainen, and Cody (Viridiana) Liimatainen. Grandchildren; William, Isabella, Mason, Lincoln, Austin, Natalia, Sebastian and Alejandro. Brother Rodney (Jane) Liimatainen, Sister Judy Parks and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family will be holding a private ceremony and celebration of life.
