Remi Lang Patel was born on May 6th, 2008, in Green Bay, WI. Remi loved his family-- his Mom and Dad, his brothers, Louis and Toby, his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, who were the center of his world. He found comfort and happiness in his dog and his cats, who were always by his side.
He loved attending Syble Hopp School, and took pride in helping to serve coffee from the student coffee cart. He loved his teachers, therapists, nurses, and staff. Music brought him joy-- pop, jazz, bluegrass, and every record his family would play for him. Books were another favorite, especially when the stories had a bit of sass, which always seemed to match his sense of humor. He especially loved when his Mimi read her favorite books to him. Remi had a unique way of communicating exactly how he felt. He was known for "playing possum" when he didn't want to work and for delivering the very best eye rolls, moments that brought laughter and warmth to those around him. Therapy was one of Remi's happy places. Those were his people, and "Come on, Rem!" may have been the phrase that motivated him more than anything else.Remi had a super cool sense of style: the best socks, perfectly fluffable hair, and hats that rarely matched (thanks Dad) but somehow always made him look effortlessly himself. He loved the color yellow, watching lights twinkle, and the simple comfort of feeling safe and loved by his people. Remi taught those around him about resilience, joy in small moments, the power of love, and the power of family. He will always be remembered-- for his spirit, his humor, his warmth, and the light he brought into his school. Remi was a warrior who fought every day to be here, but the fight for him was over. Remi's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and the entire staff at St. Vincent Hospital's NICU and PICU, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and especially Dr. Jennifer Hoyer, who was Remi's pediatrician for his entire life and treated him with the utmost care and compassion.
The world is filled with people of all levels of ability, and often the ones who are dismissed or are put in a corner have the most important thing to give the world: love. Remi passed on January 20th, 2026, peacefully at home, held by his parents, surrounded by his family, and in a glow of pure love.Remi is survived by his mother, Angela; his father, Mark; his brothers, Louis and Tobias; and many close family members. His light will never go out.
