Paul Mueller

January 23, 1956 — January 30, 2024

Paul Mueller, 68, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on January 30th at Meng Hospice Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

Paul was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin on January 23, 1956, son of Judge Harold W. Mueller and Helen B. Mueller. On March 12, 1983, he married the love of his life, Susan Theisen, even though she was allergic to fish.

Paul was fortunate to spend a 40-year career in the technology world. During that time, he saw the evolution of computers go from room-filling mainframes to a networked world in which today’s handheld smartphones are more capable than that room full of mainframe technology. He practiced his trade at The Manitowoc Company, AT&T, NCR and Schneider National, retiring in 2017 as Chief Information Officer at Thrivent Financial.

Outside of work, Paul enjoyed time with family and friends at his cottage in northern Wisconsin. Every summer, the family would spend a week or two biking and hiking in Colorado. In the winter, Paul and Sue enjoyed an annual trip to Mexico to soak up the sun and ocean.

Paul also served on the boards of multiple nonprofit organizations, giving back to the communities in which he lived and worked.

Paul is survived by his wife Sue, and son Kurt (Molly) of Lake Elmo, MN along with his sister Judge Emily Mueller (J. Denis Moran) of Racine and brother John (Barbara) Mueller of Middleton. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Kay Christman, Tari (Pete) Rank, and Diane (Jim) Waniger; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and Nancy Wheeler, who is like family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sue’s parents, and brother-in-law John Christman.

Paul and Sue are extremely grateful for the overwhelming support and prayers from family, friends, and neighbors during Paul’s illness.

A very special thank you to Dr. Groteluschen along with the nurses and staff at GB Oncology for their compassionate care. The family would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Unity Hospice nurses and staff.

A service celebrating Paul’s life will be held on February 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, 3613 Waldo Blvd in Manitowoc, with Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer officiating. Friends and relatives may greet the family at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Peace United Church of Christ or a favorite nonprofit organization in Paul’s memory.
