Louis “Lou” Kappas McGrath, age 74 of Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

He was born on August 2, 1952 to the late Robert and Katherina (Kappas) McGrath in Heidelberg, Germany, where his father was stationed.

Lou graduated from Calumet High School in Michigan in 1970.

After high school, Lou enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for four years. After a four-year break, he reenlisted in the United States Army and was with the 101st Airborne Division serving for another four years. He continued his service for another ten years in the Reserves.

After his honorable discharge from the United States Armed Services, Lou worked as a Machine Operator at Georgia Pacific. He retired from Georgia Pacific in September of 2017.

Lou loved working in his yard and gardening. He developed a love for bird watching and tying to get different birds to nest on the property at home. He also enjoyed painting and drawing. Two of his other hobbies encompassed his love for the Military with reading Military Magazines and model building. Lou loved his family and enjoyed every minute he was able to play catch with his boys through out their lives.

Lou was united in marriage to Connie Puyleart on February 6, 1988 in Green Bay.

Lou’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Croix Hospice.

Lou is survived by his wife Connie; children, Louie Jr. (Brook Daily), Joel, and Jacob (Szasha Evahoff) McGrath; grandchildren, Aillayh and Ava Rose; siblings, Betty (Barry), Erin (Richard), and Bobby (Tammy); siblings-in-law, Dianna (Jerry), Sharon, Doris (Jim), and Rick (Jean). Lou is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katherina; siblings, Linda and Claudia; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Isabelle; and siblings-in-law, Danny, Janet, and Robert.

A Memorial Service will be held for Lou on Saturday, September 12 , 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at Simply Cremation – 1530 W. Mason Street, Green Bay WI 54303 with Pastor Dennis Tooyne. Visitation will be held at Simply Cremation from 2:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Simply Cremation is assisting the McGrath family with arrangements.
