Loney Lee Withey Sr.

September 11, 1947 — April 19, 2025

Loney Withey Sr. age 77 of Wetmore, Michigan went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Loney was born on September 11, 1947 in Edmore, Michigan to Charles and Naomi Withey. Loney was very young when his father passed. Loney lived with his mother Naomi Withey Until the 10th grade when he moved to Blanchard, Michigan to live with his grandmother Clara (Withey) Hamilton he attended Blanchard schools where he played basketball until he started working for Gibson Corporation. Loney worked at Gibson Corporation until he was drafted by the United States Army to serve in the Vietnam Conflict. After returning home from Vietnam, Loney married the love of his life, Margo Jo Wadle on December 9, 1968 and returned to Gibson Corporation. Loney and Margo made a home for themselves and the family they would share in Vestaburg, Michigan. Loney and Margo were blessed with three children, Richelle, Loney Jr. and Chauntel, who would later bless them with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. After working for Gibson Corporation, which would later be called Greenville Products, for many years, Loney started a new profession in Truck Driving, where in 2001 he was awarded truck driver of the year. Loney retired in 2002. After raising their children Loney and Margo moved to Wetmore Michigan, where they enjoyed their retirement until Loney’s passing. Loney loved the U.P. and all it had to offer. He enjoyed the wildlife, including the deer, bear, birds and all the rest that came into the yard. He enjoyed feeding the birds and watching them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, trapping, mushroom hunting, and camping. Loney also loved all his pets throughout the years, most recent, Cricket, Muffer, Mitzer, Monster, and Blackie. Loney especially loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends whether, taking a trip or just enjoying all the U.P. had to offer, along with having a meal a cookout or playing cards. He enjoyed it all. Over the last several years, Loney was very involved in his church (Cook’s Community Church) , and served his community by volunteering at Good Neighbors Services, where he became and remained the director for over 20 years. Loney also served his community by heading up the TV Six Can-A-Thon along with starting food drives for the paper mill families when the paper mill shut down which he continued by starting a monthly food truck to serve all in need in the U.P., particularly in Manistque, Michigan. Loney will be missed by all who knew him. To know him was to love him.

Loney is preceded in death by his father, Charles Withey, his mother, Naomi Edwards Withey Crooks, his brother, Robert Withey, his brother, Bruce Crooks, his father-in-law, Merlin Wadle, his son-in-law, George Brown Jr., his granddaughter, Christina Dudley, his granddaughter, Laycee Koch, and his grandson, Travis Koch.
Loney is survived by, his wife, Margo Jo Withey, his mother-in-law, Berdett Wadle, his daughter and her family, Richelle and Robert Hartwig Jr.
