Lloyd Nelson, 80, of Escanaba, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Bellin Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family after an unexpected illness. He was born on August 4, 1944, in Cornell, Michigan, the son of Adolph and Minnie (Kossow) Nelson Sr.
On September 28, 1990, he married Darlene, and together they made their home in Escanaba. Lloyd retired from the Northwestern Railroad in 1992. After retirement, he ran his own portable sawmill for many years. He was also an avid deer hunter, enjoyed country music, and always looked forward to the U.P. State Fair.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Darlene (Porath) Nelson; his children, Linda King (Dan Willis) of Cornell, Dawn Ramirez (Edward) of California, and Mark Nelson (Monique) of Escanaba; and stepdaughters, Billie Rynesh (Jeff), of Wilson, and Robin Maki (Bill), of Eben Junction. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christina Caron (Dan), Sophia Ramirez, Tristin Ramirez, and Diego Ramirez. He leaves behind his brother, Leonard Nelson, and his twin brother, Floyd Nelson (Judy), both of Cornell; his sisters, Elsie Caron, of Escanaba, May Ring, and Gladys Pearson, of Cornell; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rita Nelson; brothers, Adolph Nelson Jr., Roy Nelson Sr., Marvin J. Nelson, and Lawrence Nelson; sisters-in-law, Eileen Nelson, Faye Nelson, and Helen Nelson; and brothers-in-law, Earl (Delbert) Ring Sr. and Ed Pearson.
