Larry Smith

June 17, 1938 — August 18, 2015

Larry Smith, a family man and one of the good guys, succumbed to brain cancer on August 18, 2015. Larry graduated with a Bachelor degree and Masters degree from UW-Eau Claire and a Masters degree from the University of Illinois. Larry was professionally a teacher, a school administrator and a proud Green Bay East Red Devil. Larry liked people and it showed. He would always take the time to listen and had a unique sense of what was fair. He believed everyone deserved a chance. He had many good friends and made new ones easily. Born June 17, 1938 as a Western Wisconsin country boy to Florence and Delton he enjoyed his upbringing and treasured going to his farm especially mowing the grass with his John Deere tractor and deer hunting with family. People may remember him as a youth baseball coach, a Lambeau field tour guide, a Monday night bowler, a dartball player, a Weidner Center usher, his morning coffee groups or with organizations like Bethel Lutheran Church or People to People. If you knew Larry, you were one of the lucky ones.

Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathryn (Kay) and two sons, Nathan (wife Lisa) and Jeffrey (Pam) and 3 grandchildren; Lindsey (fiancee Herb); Rachel and Brett; his sister Darleen; many cousins and numerous brothers and sisters in law and their families.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21st at Bethel Lutheran Church (Bond and Platten) from 4pm - 7pm with a church service celebrating Larry's life at 7pm. Light refreshements will follow. Online condolences can be made at simplycremationgb.com.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established or donate to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Pastor Amy, Larry's many visitors and the staffs of Grandcare, Tender Hearts, and Unity Hospice for their care, compassion and listening skills.
