John Charles Dunphy Sr.

Aug 21, 1944 — Aug 4, 2026

John Charles Dunphy Sr., 81, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

John was born on August 21, 1944, to Ken and Geraldine Dunphy. His father, Ken, passed away when John was young, and he was later raised by his mother and stepfather, Gerald Eisch.

John proudly served his country as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War. While he rarely spoke about his time in Vietnam, he was proud of his service. In 2019, John had the opportunity to participate in an Old Glory Honor Flight, a meaningful experience honoring him and his fellow veterans for their service and sacrifice.

John spent his entire working career as a pipe fitter at Fort Howard Paper Mill, known to so many in Green Bay simply as “The Fort.” He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family.

On February 1, 1969, John married Judy Chartier. Together, John and Judy shared 57 years of marriage, building a life centered around family and creating countless memories along the way. Throughout their years together, they enjoyed traveling and shared many adventures side by side.

John had a wonderful sense of humor and was someone people genuinely enjoyed being around. He was well liked by those who knew him and happiest when surrounded by his family. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, spending time with family and simply being with the people he loved most.

Of all the roles John held throughout his life, one of his most treasured was being “Papa.” His three grandchildren were his only grandchildren, and Garrett, Jaiden and Bennett absolutely adored their Papa. The love they shared with him was something truly special and will forever be one of the most treasured parts of his legacy.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy; his children, Michelle Whittemore and John Dunphy Jr.; and his beloved grandchildren, Garrett, Jaiden Stoller (Casey), and Bennett.
He is also survived by his siblings, Donna Sprang, Judith Singer, Sharon Eisch, Susie Jakubiec (Marty), Bill Eisch (Margene), and Jerry Eisch (Joanne), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

John was preceded in death by his father, Ken Dunphy; his mother, Geraldine Eisch; and his stepfather, Gerald Eisch.

Visitation for John will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Simply Cremation in Green Bay, Wisconsin. A funeral service will begin at 2:30 p.m., with military honors in recognition of John’s service to his country.

John will be remembered for his humor, his friendship, his service to his country and, above all, the love he had for his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will forever be grateful to have called him husband, Dad and Papa.
