James Ronad Retzlaff passed away peacefully in his daughter Toni's home after a short battle with ALS at the age of 68, on June 17, 2026.
The former James Retzlaff was born on July 8, 1957 in Tigerton, WI to Eugene and Leona (Steinke) Retzlaff. Growing up, he helped his parents with the family business, Retzlaff's Bar, and got to know many people. He graduated from Tigerton High School in 1975. He entered the Air Force and there was an aircrew life support specialist.
He later drove a delivery truck for Milwaukee Cheese Company based out of Wausau, then went to over the road semi-truck driving for over ten years, working for many companies, including Carl's Red Owl. He then worked at Cenex Land of Lakes as a management skills technician for approximately 10 years, and finally ended his career with Seagrave in Clintonville, where he worked as a Master Electrician for 22 years before retiring. He was very proud to have visited over 44 states throughout his life, from his time spent in the air force, driving trucks, and for his own pleasure.
James had a great love for sports, and was an all-around athlete. He particularly loved to play softball, and was a fan of the Packers and the Brewers. He had a love for the outdoors, and loved hunting, fishing, and just enjoying the woods. He also had a love for old cars.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Leona Retzlaff; his siblings, Rhonda Schmid and Sherry Retzlaff; and a niece, Shanda Dachnert.
James is survived by his daughters, Toni (Rene) Montez of Bowler, and Angela (Pete) Retzlaff-Steinbach of Tigerton; grandsons, Xavier Montez, Cody Montez, Nathan Montez, Payton Steinbach, Blake Steinbach, and Tristin Retzlaff; and his special friend, Paula Cabot.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Heartland Hospice, especially Joy and Amy, and to Pastor Dean Suehring. They would also like to thank Paula, Deb, and Dawn for taking care of James, as well as all family and friends that came and visited him, including some close family and friends such as Nicki, Carly, and Jami.
Family and friends may visit St. John's Church (502 Cedar St) in Tigerton, WI on Saturday, June 27th for a memorial service for James. Visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am, with service to begin at 11. There will be a meal afterwards in St. John's fellowship hall.
