With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Gerald “Butch” Steenbock on October 21, 2026, at age 77.
Gerald was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, caring son and brother, uncle, and loyal friend.
Gerald was baptized and confirmed at St. Martin Lutheran Church and graduated from Clintonville High School in 1967. He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church for 51 years, where he proudly sang alongside his family.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures and loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved pontoon rides on Wheeler Lake, trail riding in Paradise, and perch fishing on Cass Lake with his fishing family. He regularly attended the Great Lakes Fishing Club meetings. In later years, he especially enjoyed playing cribbage at the De Pere Community Center. He proudly holds the title of “Prince of Sheepshead.” A gambler at heart, Gerald loved a good deal and never missed his weekly Packer bet with his buddy, Dennis.
Gerald devoted 40 years to his career as a USDA food inspector while always making time for his family. Every call, visit, and shared moment brought him joy, and those memories will remain close to the hearts of those who loved him.
Gerald leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Jane; his four children, Joel (Denise) Steenbock, Jason (Jennifer) Steenbock, Jodene (Rick) Moericke, and Jenny (Corey) Riley; and his 10 grandchildren, Nolan (Nicole) Marshall, Bryce (Cami) Marshall, Georgia Steenbock, Bryn and Maryn Steenbock, Macelyn, Ellison and Griffin Moericke, and Grant and Greta Wogsland. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Waylon, Walker, and Reagan Marshall.
He is further survived by his sisters, Sharon Kerstner and Lori (Jim) Hermann; his brother, Randy (Diane) Steenbock; his brother-in-law, Jim Genskow; his best friends, Dennis and Nancy Schwenke; many nieces and nephews; and his special Goddaughter, Holly Kerstner.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Gertrude Steenbock; his parents-in-law, Alvin and Elsie Genskow; his sister, Diane Faulk; his brother, Stan Steenbock; his brother-in-law, Milon Kerstner; and his sister-in-law, Judy Genskow.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1731 St. Agnes Drive, Green Bay, WI 54304. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon afterward.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate care team at Bellin Health for the kindness and comfort they provided to Gerald and his family.
Though our hearts are sad, we find comfort in the laughter, stories, outdoor adventures, and love our dad, “Papa,” leaves behind. He will be missed beyond words and remembered always.
