George A. Hubbard, 66, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on November 2, 2026, after a short battle with lung cancer. He fought like a warrior.
He was born on March 12, 1960 in Muncie, IN, to Larry and Edith Hubbard. George loved serving his country for 20 years in the US Navy. His job as a diesel mechanic took him to Scotland, England, Japan, Guam, Texas, Florida, South Carolina, and Connecticut. He served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991. Upon retirement from the Navy, he took his quality and safety knowledge to jobs at Siemens, Penhall and Cummins.
If you knew George, you knew he loved fishing. Whether on a boat or on the shore, he could spend the entire day getting his line wet. He enjoyed pouring his own baits in his free time. He also loved rock music. He spent his younger days going to heavy metal concerts with friends, and his later days going to rock festivals with his daughter, Elizabeth. And when George became a grandfather (Gramps), he vowed to be the best Gramps that ever existed. Whether going for a walk, playing outside, reading books or snuggling while watching a movie, time with the grandkids was his favorite time of day.
George is preceded in death by his father, Larry A. Hubbard, his aunt, Mary Edwards, his uncle, Bob Staker, his cousin, Allen Staker, his brother-in-law, Walter Ellison, his maternal grandparents, Stella and George Wilson, and his paternal grandparents, Allen and Evelyn Hubbard.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Hubbard, his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Isiah Konopacki, and two adoring grandchildren, Thomas and Lillian. He is also survived by his mother, Edith Hubbard, his brother, Larry J (Missi) Hubbard, his sisters, Linda (Randy) Beyers and Kathy (Pete) Wilson, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins and nieces and nephews.
Brenda would like to thank the staff at Aurora’s Vince Lombardi Cancer Center, for always cheering him on, and the staff of Unity Hospice, for keeping him comfortable in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donating to cancer research, going fishing with a friend, attending a concert or doing anything that soothes your soul.
