Gary Lee "Bones" Simons

September 8, 1937 — September 9, 2023

Green Bay

Gary Simons 86, Green Bay, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023,
surrounded by his family. He was born on September 8, 1937, to the
late Roman and Luella (Van Nelson) Simons.

Bones is survived by his son, Jim; brother Dick Simons; sister Lynn (Dale)
Ducat; godson Tom Bournoville; his son’s mother Judy Simons.

He was preceded in death by siblings Robert (Mary) Simons; Sally (Dan)
Hasseler and sister-in-law Sandy Simons.

He enlisted in the US Army spending two years of active service and
four years in the reserves. Bones found his peace and the Lord in
nature which included working in Alaska. He was an avid sportsman.
Gained his love of fishing at his grandparents’, Martin and Lottie Van
Nelson, cottage on the Bay of Green Bay and learned to hunt from his
dad Roman and many uncles. Jim has many fond memories and stories
about hunting and fishing with his dad.

Bones loved riding and raising horses. He loved all animals, especially
dogs, always having treats handy to give to the neighborhood dogs.

He loved to read and was a good artist, guitarist, and harmonica player.
Bones saw the value of the past and anything old. He did not need a lot
to be happy.

The family would like to thank many of Bones’ neighbors for their
assistance over the years. Eternally grateful for Lila, Scott, and Tom.
We are also thankful for the 14 years of care he received from the VA
Hospital and Clinics and the care and compassion of the ER and ICU
staff at Aurora Hospital during Bones’ last days.

There will be a family and friends remembrance gathering at a future
date.
