Diane Lynn Sorbitz

July 3, 1939 — September 30, 2025

Diane Lynn (Seeger) (Grant) Sorbitz died peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2025, in Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Green Bay, Wisconsin, from pancreatic cancer. She was 86 years old and had been in ill health since last December.

Lynn was born on July 3, 1939, in St. Louis City, Missouri, the daughter of Vernon Seeger and Leota Victoria (Wright) (Seeger) Grant. Lynn's father Vernon died on November 26, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan. Her mother remarried to George Nelson Grant and George adopted Lynn as his daughter on April 4, 1954, in St. Louis County, Missouri. Her adoptive father George died on June 23, 1960, in St. Louis County, Missouri, and her mother Leota died on March 2, 1963, in St. Louis City, Missouri. Lynn grew up in St. Louis and Webster Groves, Missouri, and graduated from Webster Groves High School. Lynn's classmate Susan Sorbitz introduced Lynn to Susan's brother and Lynn's future husband Arthur Peter Sorbitz. Lynn married Peter on May 27, 1960, in Webster Groves, St. Louis County, Missouri, shortly after he completed four years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps. Peter died on July 19, 2012, in Door County, Wisconsin. They had no children.

Lynn was the Probate Clerk for St. Louis County, Missouri, until her retirement in 1998, when she and Pete moved to Door County. Lynn's mother Leota was a painter, who once paid a doctor bill with an oil painting, and Lynn inherited her mother's artistic talent. Lynn was a vibrant and creative person who produced numerous pieces of folk art, painted furniture, jewelry, Christmas ornaments and decorations, quilts and weavings and gave them to her relatives and friends and local organizations for fund raising events. Family members cherish these gifts and have them on display in their homes and as part of their holiday decorations. She was also an excellent cook and loved collecting recipes and sharing them with others. Lynn is remembered for her infectious laugh and always upbeat personality.

Lynn is survived by her brother Robert N. Grant of Menlo Park, California, his wife Joan D. Grant, and their sons and Lynn's nephews Tyler C. Grant of San Carlos, California, and Ryan C. Grant of Menlo Park, California; her deceased brother John C. Grant's widow Judith Grant of Denver, Colorado, and their children and Lynn's niece Susan Schneider and nephew Christopher C. Grant. Lynn is survived as well by her lifelong friends and neighbors Mick and Heather Hellmich and by her friends Susan Young and Krisann Leonard and numerous other cousins around the country and friends in Door County.

By her request, her remains are to be cremated and no service will he held in her memory.
