Dennis D. Durkey

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis D. Durkey on August 5th, 2024, who bravely battled an illness that ravaged his body. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and love for home, family, and friends.

Dennis was the eldest son of Walter and Jeanette (Dieck) Durkey, born in Marion, WI, on September 21, 1941. He graduated from Clintonville High School in 1959. He was happily married to Judy (Strelow) Durkey on September 1, 1962. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Dennis retired from the City of Menasha Public Works Department on January 3, 1997 after 35 years. Dennis enjoyed woodworking, all types of mechanics, bowling, Nascar, watching the Packers with family and many other things. 

Dennis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy; daughters, Terri Spang, Tammy (Dave Behnke); four grandchildren, Joe Spang (Special friend Autumn Owens), Ryan Spang, Dylan (Jenna Vendenberg), and Becca (Dustin) Foat; two great grandchildren, Eli and Elena Spang, and baby Vandenberg due February of 2025.; brothers, Ron (Melissa) Durkey, Terry (M J) Durkey, Larry Durkey, Doreen (Mike) Weisnicht, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jeanette Durkey; brother, Lonnie Durkey; son-in-law, Steve Spang; in-laws, John and Irene Strelow; sisters-in-law, Diane Lashay and Mary Hovey and brother-in-law, Jack Strelow.

Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 Broad St, Saturday, August 10th, from 11 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. A celebration will immediately follow at Redliner, 977 Plank Rd,, Menasha from 2 PM until 6 PM.
