Dale Thomas Wied

Dale Thomas Wied, 67, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, entered eternal life on August 1, 2026, one week after suffering a stroke. Surrounded by the love of his family, he passed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, humor, gratitude, and a love of family.

He attended Mary Queen of Heaven School through eighth grade before graduating from Nathan Hale High School in West Allis with the Class of 1977. A proud Huskie, he played football all four years. His competitive spirit continued into college, where he played rugby—and proudly wore the bruises to prove it.

Dale attended UW–Milwaukee before earning a Bachelor of Science in Project Management from the University of Phoenix. Following the path of his grandfather, father, and several brothers, Dale began his career at Kearney & Trecker. Throughout his career, he held mechanical engineering and project management positions, including work in Research and Development at Quad Graphics. But his fondest position was when he was promoted to Head Cook at the Wied Deer Camp last year!

As a young boy, Dale developed a variety of interests that carried into adulthood. His love for football, both playing and watching, began at home. Family parties often resulted in ‘pick up games’ in the street or at a nearby park with his cousins and brothers. Sunday afternoons were spent gathered around the television to watch the Green Bay Packers play. Eventually, trips were made to experience the excitement at Lambeau Field.

While sports were one passion, Dale loved a good strategy game, especially Risk, where he could put his love of history and competition to the test. As a boy, he spent countless hours staging battles with army men and reading books about historical events, interests that stayed with him throughout his life.

The family cottage on Lake Mary, near Crivitz, was the backdrop of countless precious memories - swimming, fishing, hiking, hunting, camping, campfires with the imaginary "careless family," and simply enjoying time together with family.

Dale’s deep appreciation for the outdoors and adventure naturally led him to Boy Scouts. First as a young Scout and later as a dedicated leader to his sons’ Troop 21 in Brookfield. Dale passionately created many opportunities for the scouts to experience the outdoors like an annual tree planting at Ottawa State Park, Scouting the Zoo, polar bear camping, and a backpacking trip through Michigan’s Porcupine Mountains. Dale guided many young men, including his sons, towards their journey to Eagle Scout and nurturing them through priceless life skills. With patience, curiosity, and a playful demeanor, it’s no surprise that many scouts expressed that Dale was a favorite leader.

Alex and Joshua were Dale's greatest pride and joy, whom he shared with Ann. Dale always encouraged curiosity and creativity in his sons. Old snowblowers and lawn mowers became projects to repair, dismantle, and rebuild together, teaching Alex and Joshua how things worked and giving them the confidence to figure things out for themselves. Dale found great joy in watching his sons’ become fathers and becoming a grandfather himself.

Riley, Ruth, Charlie, and Cooper deeply loved their Grandpa Dale. With each video call or mention of an upcoming visit, the kids would be filled with pure delight. His gentle hello, go with the flow attitude and love for imaginative play made every visit a treasured experience. Whether it was a disco dance party, horsey ride, an amusement ride at Bay Beach, playing in the sand at Lake Mary, or sharing a special sugary treat, spending time with Grandpa Dale was always filled with goofiness, laughter, and happiness.

Dale faced seasons of hardship, yet he met them with remarkable courage. His faith and spirituality sustained him, allowing him to find gratitude in each day and in the people who surrounded him.

Dale and his family were deeply grateful for the love shown by his cousins, Cathy, Ralph, and Theresa, in recent years. Whether opening their homes, spending afternoons thrifting, playing games, or simply sharing heartfelt conversations, those moments became treasured gifts.

Dale’s quick wit, thoughtfulness, kindness, and presence will be deeply missed. His faith assures us this is not goodbye, but until we meet again.

Dale is lovingly survived by his sons, Alex and Joshua (Katelyn); his cherished grandchildren Riley (7), Charlie (3), Ruth (4), and Cooper (1); and former wife and mother of his children, Ann.

Dale was the third youngest of ten children and is survived by his siblings - Dennis, Douglas (Judy), Denise (Mike) Szymanski, Donald, Debbie (Tom), and Dawn (Trevorr); his nieces and nephews - Jessica (Chris); Kathryn and Penny; Amanda (Jeremiah) and Adam (Jenny); Michael and Daniel; Melissa, Michelle (Chris), and Matthew (Jesse); Kevin (Kari) and Eric; and Ashley and Erika (Niki).

Preceded in death by his parents - Nathan and Thelma, brothers - Randall, David, and Daniel, and niece - Allyson.

Gathering to Celebrate the Life of Dale Wied

Please join us to remember, share stories, and celebrate the life of Dale Wied. We will be gathering casually in the Fellowship Hall at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brookfield. In honor of Dale, we encourage you to wear Packer Gear or a Hawaiian style shirt. Note: Bears jerseys will be turned away at the door!

We will pause together at 3:00 PM for a short reflection, prayers, and words of remembrance. If you’d like to share a story or memory, there will be some time allotted for an open mic to share.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The VEDS Movement (thevedsmovement.org) which supports a rare genetic disorder that has greatly impacted Dale's extended family.
