Chip Deering
As a light here on Earth dimmed, Heaven has gained an amazing angel. Dale “Chip” Fedrick Deering, Jr., 77, passed away Sunday, November 2nd at home with his family by his side. Chip was born in Green Bay to Dale and Annette (Haese) Deering.
Upon graduating from East High in 1966, Chip joined the US Navy where he served on the USS Kitty Hawk followed by the USS Hornet, the prime recovery ship for the Apollo 11 and 12 missions.
While attending UW-Stout, Chip met his soul mate and in 1972 married Erika Murray at Greendale Community Church.
Prior to entering the Navy, Chip worked for Wisconsin Public Service. After moving back to Green Bay, he took over the family business as owner and operator of Ann’s Pet Shop, Ann’s Pet Too and Green Bay Pet Supply Inc. He finished out his working days with Georgia Pacific Corporation before retirement.
Chip had a passion for the outdoors and hunting, spending as much time as he could at the cabin, which was a labor of love for him. He also enjoyed taking trips to different races with the RV. Spending time with family and supporting his grandchildren in all their activities was immensely important to Chip and he was incredibly proud of all of them.
Chip is survived by his loving wife Erika; children Clint (Vicki) Deering, Carrie (Chet) Hassemer and Cristy Castelic; six grandchildren Ashley (Kolton Bradley) and Taylor (Mason Kolarik) Deering, Carson (Makiyah Derrig) and Cole Hassemer, Payton and Carter Castelic and their father Ben Castelic. He is further survived by extended family and numerous friends.
Chip was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Ann, sister Barb Waak, and mother and father-in-law Joseph and Gisela Murray.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 120 S. Henry St., Green Bay on Saturday, December 13th. Visitation at 9am, service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Unity Hospice for their care and compassion during the final weeks of Chip’s life.
Chip was the cornerstone of his family and his loss is vast and profound. His wisdom and guidance will be greatly missed as well as his wit and sense of humor, still cracking jokes until the end. He showed his family what true love is while building an incredible life story. Chip was a trusted confidant, a shoulder to cry on, hardworking and loyal, and the best hunting companion anyone could have asked for. He touched numerous lives and all who met him are blessed to have known him. His loss will be felt deep in the hearts of many.
