Cynthia Ann Marling Lamm

September 13, 1944 — April 26, 2026

Green Bay, WI

Cynthia Marling Lamm passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on April 26, 2026. Cindy was born on September 13, 1944 in Madison, WI, to William Robert Marling and Elisabeth Mae Leyse. Cindy grew up in the Shorewood neighborhood of Madison with her parents as the second of four children with her brother William (Bill), sister Marilyn and brother Thomas (Tom).

She spent her summers with her grandparents on Fox Point and at Camp Osoha in Boulder Junction, WI. She attended Madison schools, graduating from Central High School in 1962. Following in her parents and grandparents footsteps, she went to UW Madison. Although she aspired to go into the navy like her father before her to become a naval nurse, she instead graduated with a degree in Home Economics in 1966. That same year, she met John Lamm through mutual friends, and they married in August 1967.

After living outside of Memphis, TN for a time while John was in boot camp, Cindy moved back to Madison during her husband’s deployment to Vietnam. When he returned in 1968, a job offer took John and Cindy to Los Angeles, where they welcomed two children, Elisabeth (Lisa) in 1970 and Christopher in 1972. Another job offer moved them to Orange County where the young family set up roots.

While raising her kids, Cindy took the opportunity to go back to school and in 1982, received her nursing degree from Saddleback College. Shortly after, she started working at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Medical Center, where she worked for the entirety of her nursing career – first as an RN and eventually as a Case Manager.

After her marriage ended in 1987, she continued to live in Orange and Riverside Counties, until she retired to Arizona in 2008 to be closer to her son and grandchildren. She was active in her local chapters of the DAR, PEO, and local genealogical associations. In 2021, Cindy returned to Wisconsin, moving to Green Bay where she resided at an assisted living facility near her daughter and her family.

Throughout her life, Cindy had four passions – her children and grandchildren, nursing, genealogy and traveling. During the last 20 years of her life, she was fortunate to travel all over the world while working on her genealogy research.

Cindy is survived by her children and their spouses, Lisa (Rob) Aikins, Chris (May) Lamm, and her grandchildren, William Aikins, Sarah (David) Marsh, Michael Aikins, Ethan Gongora and Hayden Lamm. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn (David) Atwell, and numerous nephews and nieces. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, William Robert and Elisabeth Marling and her brothers, William (Bill) Marling and Thomas (Tom) Marling.

A celebration of life will be held at New Perspectives Senior Living in Green Bay, WI on June 13, 2026 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. A private burial service will be held in Madison, WI at a future date. Memorial contributions in Cindy’s honor can be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or The Shriners – two organizations that were dear to Cindy’s heart.
