Birke "Dave McKay" Luckenbill

Birke Luckenbill, 79, Green Bay, passed away peacefully in his home on October 14, 2022. He was born in Superior, Wisconsin on October 10, 1943, to the late Albert and Natalie (Radloff) Luckenbill. Birke was raised in Superior, Wisconsin graduating from Superior East High School in 1961.
Birke, known to most people by his stage name, Dave McKay, enjoyed a long career in Broadcasting working at WNFL as a radio announcer, then at WBAY TV where he filled many rolls from Weekend Weatherman to hosting a children’s show. He then worked in marketing at Miller Electric and later, FEECO International.
Dave married Cheri (Van Laanen) on August 23, 1985. They moved into their beloved home on the Bay where they shared many beautiful sunsets with their children from Dave’s first marriage, grandchildren, friends, neighbors, and many pets.
Dave was a voracious reader and collector of knowledge, enjoying a good conversation on just about any subject from WW2 to Rock n’ Roll or Packers Football. He was an explorer and loved sailing, traveling, playing guitar and star gazing.
Dave is survived by his wife and his three fabulous children, Christopher Luckenbill and his wife Velecia, Holly Gering, and Angela Patel along with her husband Mark. Dave was loving Papa to his nine grandchildren, Leighana (Trey), Nathan (Ali), Jayden, Jaxon, Nicholas, Matthew (Jaidyn), Louis, Tobias, and Remi and 3 great grandchildren, Quinn, Isla Mell and Ford, his former spouse Carol (Androski) and his mother-in-law Harriet Van Laanen.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Connie Luckenbill, and his father-in-law Sonny Van Laanen.
Friends and family will gather to honor Dave’s life on Monday, October 24 from 4PM to 7PM at Palm Gardens, 6028 County Road K, New Franken, WI 54229.
Dave’s passion for the stargazing and outer space was a huge part of his life. The family has found a company to send some of Dave’s ashes to the moon. Please consider a donation to help make Dave’s dream come true. Contact Cheri for more information.
