Sandra Christofferson

October 25, 1949 — February 20, 2018

Sandra “Sandy” Christofferson passed away Tuesday, February 20, with her family by her side. The eldest of 9 sisters, she was born on October 25, 1949, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Ellen and the late Lester Harring. Sandy graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1968 and received her degree in accounting from NWTI.

Sandy and David Srenaski wed in a small intimate ceremony in their backyard on August 5, 2000, surrounded by close family and friends. Together they cheered on the Packers, enjoyed taking road trips to Door County and Eagle River and playing cribbage. After Sandy’s retirement, she and Dave had a routine that included watching The Chew together in the afternoon, going to meet friends in the afternoons to socialize at Scoreboard Bar and Grill and watching Jeopardy in the evening. Before her failing health prevented her from doing so, Sandy was always sure to keep the kitchen well stocked with fresh baked treats for Dave, and she enjoyed watching her grandson Jack play baseball and granddaughter Lauren dance.

Sandy was a loving, supportive and generous mom to Leslie. Together they enjoyed lunches out, endless text message conversations, and shared a love of animals. Whether Leslie was just across town or across the country, she was always a top priority to Sandy and they shared a closeness only the two of them will ever truly understand.

Sandy was the best kind of grandma to Jack and Lauren: she always said “yes” and loved them unconditionally. She was quick to offer one of her delicious cookies, pull out the candy dish, show great interest in whatever activity it was they asked her to play with them, and when they parted, she covered them in hugs and “I love yous”.

Sandy was a kind, beloved and devoted sister. She will be remembered for her nurturing nature, unconditional love and her willingness to help a sister in need. Her upbeat “Hi, it’s Sandy!” when she called on the phone still rings in our ears. She had a great sense of humor, loved her Packers and loved her family even more.

Our family has countless joy-filled memories of Sandy. Sandy loved to serve others with warmth and kindness. She was the family hostess extraordinaire and opened her door for a myriad of get-togethers. From annual Memorial Day weekend treks up north, Christmas and Thanksgiving—too many to count--to the Super Bowl of 1997, she enjoyed turning her home into the family party “headquarters”. Her fondness of baking goodies including classic molasses Christmas cookies, scrumptious snowball cookies, and who could forget the famous onion chip dip, taco dip and shrimp dip that were loved by many and cannot be separated from our memories of her.

Sandy loved creating handmade gifts for others. Doreen and her son, Dan, have a precious Christmas stocking that Sandy made before Dan’s first Christmas that they still treasure. Sandy’s mom will miss their visits talking about recipes and t.v. shows while sitting in her favorite chair at their house. When mom thinks of apple crisp, she thinks of Sandy. Niece Melanie couldn’t leave her house without a care package, usually two meals worth.

Sandy was a giver. She made Christmas ornaments for all. She showed her kindness by volunteering at St. Mary’s and helping her next door neighbor. She loved to help others in whatever way she could, and she did so often and gladly.

We will miss Sandy. She was our big sister. The oldest of nine girls. Her beautiful smile, her funny laugh, and her love for her family will never leave our memories. She will be joining us in our hearts at future get-togethers as we reminisce and remember her with love.

Sandy is survived by her husband, David Srenaski, daughter Leslie Christofferson, stepdaughter and stepson-in-law Jennifer and Scott Dahlke and their children, Jack and Lauren, all of Green Bay; her mother, Ellen Maas, and stepfather, Jim Maas, Howard, Wisconsin; eight sisters and their spouses: Janice (Ira) Harring-Hendon, Lindenhurst, Illinois; Nancy Jo (Larry Bitters) Harring , Green Bay; Doreen (Jack) Michals, Loveland, Colorado; Beth (Michael) Trudell, Sobieski; Mary (Dave) Yuhasey, Crystal Falls, Michigan; Amy (Jeff) Tappen, Sobieski; Lori (Peter) Bernard, Hudson, Wisconsin; Kris (Keith) Walker, De Pere; nieces and nephews: Dan Perkins, Hibbing, Minnesota; Melanie and Laura Braley, Green Bay; Michael Bernard, Hudson, Wisconsin; Special aunt and uncle Katie and Ken Trachte, Madison, Wisconsin, and cousins Tom and Sue; Leslie’s dear friend, Ashlee Alicea Olujic, whom Sandy loved as if she were her own daughter.

Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Lester Harring; stepson, Jeffrey Srenaski; brother-in-law, David Braley; and cousin, John Trachte.

At Sandy’s request there will be no visitation or funeral. Rather, the family will hold a private celebration of her life in the future. Sandy was passionate about and supported many causes. She asked if loved ones felt compelled to do so, that donations be made in her name to the ASPCA, any type of cancer research or a charity of their choosing.
