Richard M. Freeberg

December 10, 1932 — June 30, 2018

Richard Manfred Freeberg went to be with the Lord on June 30, 2018, surrounded by his family. Dick was born in Rockford, IL, on December 10, 1932 to Sven and Martha Freeberg. He attended East High School in Rockford, where he met and married the “love of his life,” Myrt. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in April. Dick was in the Naval Reserves for 6 years after high school and attended the “Wisconsin Bakers Institute” in Chicago, IL. He started working in the family bakery at age 16, with his father and uncle, and worked as a baker for another 48 years until his retirement. Dick moved his family from Rockford to Watertown, WI in 1970 and opened his own bakery. He sold that bakery to his daughter and son-in law in 1987 and eventually retired on Silver Lake in Wautoma. This move fulfilled a lifelong dream to live on a lake. No one enjoyed the beauty of God’s nature more than Dick. He loved just sitting and watching the lake and all the activity there. Dick loved fishing, boating and spending time with his family. He was an avid Packer, Brewer and Badger fan. All who knew him, understood his love and appreciation for the wonderful life that the Lord provided him and he was greatly loved by so many.

Dick is survived by his wife, Myrt; children, Scott (Karen), Birchwood, MN, Karin (Rick), Hillsdale, WI, Jane, Hobart, WI, Kurt (Patty) Menomonee Falls, WI, and Dean (Myra), Arlington, VA; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sven and Martha Freeberg; and his sister, Florence Ann.

A Celebration of Dick's Life will be held at the Green Bay Botanical Garden, 2600 Larsen Road, Green Bay, on Saturday, July 28th from 1:00pm - 5:00pm.

The family would like to thank the staff at Emerald Bay Retirement Community and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful love and care they gave both Dick and Myrt the last few months. Cards can be sent to Myrt in care of Simply Cremation, 243 N. Broadway, Green Bay, WI 54303.
