Arnold C. Haberli

October 19, 1930 — May 8, 2017

Arnold (Arnie) Carl Haberli, age 86, of Sturgeon Bay, died peacefully Monday, May 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at Door County Medical Center after a short illness. Arnie was born October 19, 1930 to Arnold and Mary (Stoeger) Haberli in Sturgeon Bay, the third oldest of five children. He graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1948.

Arnie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the Korean War, he went home to the family farm, where he was the third generation of his family to farm the same land. On September 5, 1959 at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute, he married Teresa Joan Kuehn.

Arnie was a strong believer in leaving the land better than you received it. He understood you only rent the land for the short time you are here on this earth. He was always thinking of conservation, protecting water quality, and building farm ponds. Even in his last days, he was still thinking of ideas to improve the pond area. His most cherished times were around the farm pond with his children and grandchildren during the many fishing derbies.

As an avid Packer fan, he enjoyed the many Packer parties with his longtime friends. Keeping up with his grandchildren’s’ sporting and hunting activities, filled his days.

Arnie was a man of great faith and lifetime member of S.S. Peter and Paul and St. Joseph Parish. He appreciated the company of others, and there never was a person, who he couldn’t enjoy a conversation with.

Arnie will be deeply missed by his former wife, Teresa Haberli, his eight children; Catherine (Andrew) Heimbecher of Prairie du Sac, John Haberli (Special friend Sue) of Sturgeon Bay, Karen (Mark) Orthober of Tripoli, Marie (Tim) Ash of Sturgeon Bay, Steven (Christina) Haberli of Sturgeon Bay, Anthony Haberli of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Michelle (Greg) Schleicher of Sturgeon Bay, and Marsha (Charles) Forsch of Sturgeon Bay, twenty-six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, his sisters; Helen Simon of Neenah, Marion (William) Baudhuin of Sturgeon Bay, Lois (Tom) Abrahamson of Pulaski, brother James (Patti) Haberli of Lodi and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Henry Simon.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 with full Military Honors, Friday, May 19, 2017 at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute, with Fr. Bob Stegmann as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Arnie’s memory.

“As a family, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. McCormack, Dr. Palines, Dr. Michalski, Katie Graf, Unity Hospice and the Emergency and Med/Surg Nursing Staff of Door County Medical Center, for their compassionate care during this difficult time.”
